Troy's Habitat Today

Do you see that little tyger (not a typo) in the bottom right hand corner? He is Troy. He is my (fluff)Friend. I pretty much registered on Facebook to play with (fluff). He normally lives at http://troy.fluff-friends.com. Today, however, if you click the link, you will see that Troy is not in his habitat.

Today's habitat is this:

Today is World AIDS day. AIDS/HIV is a disease/virus with which people in the West can expect near normal life expectancy, and a disease which kills thousands of people daily in third world countries.

AIDS is no longer simply the "gay plague" that can be dismissed with a self-righteous wave of the hand. It's killing parents and children. It's making orphans daily, orphans, whose own life expectancies are a lot shorter than any child should have.

Really, the only person I know who has actually died of AIDS was a straight man. I still  miss him, and often think of him.

  1. I don't know if you caught any of my posts where I revealed that I spent some ten years in professional theater.... I lost a couple of dear friends to AIDS. Breaks my heart because they were both so much fun, so bright, so light.

  2. Yes, I did! And I was thinking that many people with a background in theatre do make the best teachers.

I think that the AIDS "scare" of teh 80's and early 90's is now often ignored or forgotten, with other issues getting the attention. I feel like many of the people who have been killed by it are now forgotten and it makes me sad.
