Okay, so if you are not European, I don't think you'll get any of this post.
My kids are in the Indians and Cowboys phase. They are not really into the discovering the actual Native American heritage one of them has, but into reading Karl May's Winettou books, and watching the old DDR (East German movies) that Grandpa has on VHS, dubbed to Hungarian.
As I watch these films with them, starring Gojko Mitic, I keep wondering why such un-PC and old and less-than-American-high-tech movies keep us all enetertained way better than Harry Potter 6 did?
Strangely enough, a few days ago my sister and I were talking about the same movies that enchanted our childhood and laughed a lot at how Winetou was talking in Hungarian...
ReplyDeleteI remember the very first one I saw was in Leningrad when we went to adopt my younger brother. It was surreal, as Winetou was speaking in German and Russian at the same time!
