Today
is World AIDS day. AIDS/HIV is a disease/virus with which people in the
West can expect near normal life expectancy, and a disease which kills
thousands of people daily in third world countries. The picture above was the habitat of my (fluff)Friend Troy two years ago today.
AIDS
is no longer simply the "gay plague" that can be dismissed with a
self-righteous wave of the hand. It's killing parents and children. It's
making orphans daily, orphans, whose own life expectancies are a lot
shorter than any child should have.
I am parenting a teenager who lives with HIV. I do believe there is a bright future ahead of him, no matter what he chooses to do, because he is way more than a diagnosis.
